Music and Movement

Music and movement in the early years is not only fun and loved by children of all ages, it supports development in so many ways:
  • Through music and movement children can express their feelings and respond to different types of music like classical, modern and cultural.
  • It encourages children to develop essential listening skills and develop their vocabulary by discussing how the music might make them feel, whether the music is strong and powerful or subtle and relaxing.
  • Traditional and more modern nursery rhymes and action songs help children develop an awareness and understanding of rhyme, which in turn will help them with creative writing such as stories and poetry.
  • Using props such as scarves and ribbons to support movement helps develop upper body muscles used for writing later on.
By providing a space where children can develop their own musical appreciation, children at Little Deers can experiment with sound, rhyming, rhythm, movement and creative expression.
